Animals That Live In Grassland Biomes
There are millions of animals and insect's species that inhabit all grassland biomes around the Earth. All in which have successfully adapted in different biomes within the grassland ecosystem. Different mini biomes of grasslands have their own unique wildlife which makes them special to the other biomes of the world. The food chain in certain biome decides which animal will dominate the wildlife within the biome.
Savanna is a home to a wide variety of animals which inhabit the African continent. Notable animals are elephants, zebras, rhinoceros (rhinos), lions, cheetahs, ostriches and giraffes. Most animals and birds do migrate to different places to avoid the lack of water in the dry season. If droughts do continue for a long time, animals may migrate to different biomes until the rainy season begins again.
Chaparral is home to mainly small-sized animals such as the black-tailed jackrabbits, cactus wrens, golden jackals, grey foxes, pumas, san joachin kit foxes, spotted skunks and wild goats.
Pampas is relatively a small biome compared to the others, thus it does not contain a huge variety of wildlife. However some animals that can be found in the pampas biomes are the burrowing owls which hunt for insects or birds, pampa deers, gray foxes, guanacos and rheas also live in the pampas biome.
Steppe biomes contain a huge number of wild horses which can be tamed by the tribesmen of the steppe. Other than horses, there are also corsac foxes, mongolian gerbils, saiga antelopes, northern lynxes and saker falcons that live in steppe biomes.
Prairie biomes contain a large variety of wildlife. Notable animals are the American toads, bison, bumble bees, california condor, elks, fox snakes, golden owls, carrion beetle and grizzly bears. The animals that live in prairies have adapted to a semi-arid, windy environment with few trees or shrubs. They can also withstand a great range in temperature, from well below freezing in winter to extreme heat in summer.
